Just read A Lumbee Gershom, and I must say, this is one of the BEST reads I have had the opportunity to soak into my brain and soul! I was right there, with every breath and feeling Miss Anita "JoJo" Shifflett was speaking of throughout this book. I must admit, that I have met her only on a few occasions, so I can hear her words, her voice, as comforting and inviting as it is, just as A Lumbee Gershom is. I CANNOT wait until another book from her is published! Please, Miss JoJo, get to it, so I can re-read another book. First time in my life, I have read a book only days after reading it, so I can relive those memories with her again!
Thank you for acknowledging JoJo. JoJo was born into the movement. Her grandfather's struggle in Lumbee Territory is historic. Their love is true love. They both brought priority for the Water Protectors legal rights to the table at Standing Rock. Dennis set the pace. JoJo drafted the legalese for us. Their love included love for our people all of humanity and Mother Earth. Dennis' and JoJo drafted his LAST and FINAL quest for Human dignity for all of us. I recently discovered this book online and decided to buy a copy. I have to say that I was not disappointed!!!! After reading, I must admit it was absolutely great!!! It was very well written educational, enlightening, and written with love. I have lived in Robeson County most of my life. I attended school in Lumberton and graduated from Pembroke State University. I have many friends from the Lumbee Nation!!! And see many everyday. Whether you are Lumbee or not, I highly recommend this book for a very great read!!!!! It will touch your heart!!!!! As for the author, JoJo Brooks Shifflett, thanks for writing such a great book and sharing your life experiences!

Do you like to read memoirs? I personally really do, although sometimes it’s hard for me to get into them depending on what happens! However, I was sent this lovely book by @alumbeegershom and I am extremely excited to read this one! A Lumbee Gershom is the story about one child’s ability to fit in with her mothers people and adhere to the customs & rituals of her Lumbee ancestors.

Do you know what you need to be reading this Autumn season? A Lumbee Gershom by JoJo Brooks Shifflett. I am almost done with it (page 112 of 145) and I am absolutely loving the stories. Honestly, it's such a heartwarming book, despite all of the awful things that have happened. It's a story about a family and love, and what you would do for those you love. Go get your blankets, your favorite fall drink and cuddle up with this book this fall!

I really enjoyed learning about the Lumbee tribe of North Carolina. The rest of the world can really learn something from them. They are the epitome of what a community should be, full of love for one another, supporting each other through good times and bad, always remembering where they are from even though they are miles and miles away. Jojo tells hers and her family's story so well and readers are able to feel her emotions through her words. Really beautiful stories about a beautiful people who should never be forgotten. Thank you for allowing me to experience your story.
